OPEC - Development and improvement of practical teaching of electrical engineering

project no: CZ.1.07 / 1.1.00 / 54.0052, project realization: 1.9.2014 - 31.7.2015, subsidy: 6.282.179 CZK

Project

1. About the project

The main objective of the project is to extend and improve the practical teaching of selected secondary schools focusing on electrical engineering (project partners) in two regions, by creating own centres of practice of the Moravian-Silesian Energy Cluster (MSEK), whose activities will correspond to the real needs of companies with electro-technical focus operating in the region. The focus of the project is the development of practical teaching and practice in the field of electrical engineering - to create centres where pupils will be able to perform realistic tasks based on the needs of potential employers (mainly cluster members and other institutions). The project will be launched by an introductory joint meeting of the representatives of regional companies, representatives of participating schools and representatives of MSEK. The purpose of the meeting will be to define the needs of companies based on practice, on the basis of which the tasks for the pupils of the participating schools will be specified. The output will then be a database of practical tasks that pupils will be performing under a supervision of professionals. These tasks will focus on developing pupils' professional qualifications, their skills and the ability to work independently so as to meet the needs of the job provider as much as possible. In order to ensure the functionality of the centres, working teams will be set up, where the pupils will work on assigned tasks supervised by teachers and professional guarantors. At the end of the project implementation, a Final Joint Meeting will take place and will be attended by the representatives of all institutions and partners involved. This meeting will be an evaluation of the practical tasks that pupils have developed within the practice centres. This evaluation will take the form of a competition and a presentation of the presentation boards with the results of individual teams. The overall output of the project will be the extension and improvement of practical teaching about real-life assignment at secondary schools by acquiring new partners and possibilities for practical teaching of pupils in schools.

2. Key activities

KA 01 Establishment of own centres of practice of the Moravian-Silesian Energy Cluster at partner's secondary schools.

Within this key activity, two centres of practice of the Moravian-Silesian Energy Cluster (MSEK) will be set up at partner's schools involved. These practice centres will aim to improve the practical teaching for pupils of involved schools in cooperation with MSEK and the involvement of companies operating in the field of electro-technics within the affected regions.

The key activity and the implementation of the project will be launched by an introductory joint meeting of the representatives of regional companies, representatives of participating schools and representatives of MSEK. The aim of this meeting will be to define the needs of companies in practice on the basis of which tasks for the pupils of the participating schools will be specified. The output will be a database of practical tasks for pupils who will fulfil these tasks under the supervision of professionals. These tasks will be aimed at developing pupils' professional qualifications, their skills and their ability to act independently to meet the needs of the job-provider, which will be among the companies operating in the field and the region. In addition, at the Introductory Joint Meeting, the specific objectives and contents of each MSEK practice centre, which will be set up at individual schools, will be defined and described. After setting these basic prerequisites for achieving the set goals, specific practical tasks will be assigned to the target group of the two participating secondary schools. These real tasks, based on the database of practical tasks and needs of the involved companies, will be solved by the pupils in the working teams with the support of teachers and guarantors. To solve concrete practical tasks, pupils need to retrofit both MSEK practice centres with modern tools, which will enable the practical task to be adequately addressed. For these reasons, the purchase of specific equipment will be part of this activity.

KA 02 Performance of real tasks within the established Practice Centres

As part of this activity, working teams will be created at partner's schools, composed of pupils, teachers and guarantors, who will perform real tasks in the practice centres based on the created task database. In order to ensure the functionality of the centres, working teams will be set up, where the pupils will work on assigned tasks supervised by teachers and professional guarantors. The guarantors will consult on the progress of individual tasks within the established teams through regular consultations. In solving individual tasks, emphasis will be placed on the pupils working in accordance with real-time and time-based procedures. When performing individual tasks, the pupil will lead a professional practice journal where the partial results of the assigned task will be recorded and will be continuously evaluated by the professional practice teacher and the professional guarantor according to the quality of the task fulfilled. For the functionality of their own practice centres it will be necessary to ensure their operation not only from a professional point of view, but also material support should be supported. During the implementation of this activity, the material and equipment necessary for the work of the pupils to carry out their practical tasks will continue to be acquired. In order to increase pupil's idea of their future focus and production processes, the real experience in fulfilling the practical tasks will be supported by the excursion in the operation of the cooperating company. In order to further develop their own MSEK practice centres and improve the practical education of students even after the completion of the project implementation, the Methodology will be developed for the use of practical teaching results in the field of theory with emphasis on the specialization of the partner's school. The methodology will be developed by expert consultants in cooperation with guarantors and pedagogical staff. During the project, joint meetings of schools will be held at so called Practical Days, where the tasks and the presentation of tasks within the MSEK Practice Centres will be continuously evaluated.

KA 03 Evaluation of the practice development and its outputs within the MSEK practice centres and their presentation

This key activity focuses on presenting and evaluating practical tasks and evaluating the overall functioning of the MSEK Practice Centre at partner's schools. Furthermore, the aim of the key activity is to present centres of practice to pupils of secondary schools from the first year and also to pupils from partner's secondary schools. Within this activity, a final joint meeting will take place, attended by the representatives of MSEK, of the participating secondary schools, mentoring practitioners, representatives of other companies and pupils of the first year of the participating and partner's secondary schools. Two final meetings will take place, where its own practice centre will be presented at each secondary school. This meeting will be an evaluation of the practical tasks that pupils have developed within the practice centres. This evaluation will take the form of a competition and a presentation of the presentation boards with the results of individual teams / pupils. During the competition, the pupils involved in secondary schools will compete with each other in the practical tasks they dealt with at the practice centres and will thus compete and present their skills acquired through practical lessons on real tasks. At the final joint meeting, the pupils from the first years of the two participating secondary schools will be present to present the MSEK practice centre with a competition and exhibition. The pupils of the first years of the secondary schools will have the opportunity to try individually presented practical tasks under the supervision of the representatives of the companies and the guarantors of the working teams. This activity is to show younger students of secondary schools the possibility of finding employment in this field, and to motivate them to further studies at secondary schools.

KA 04 Analyzing and describing the possibilities of providing practical lessons for the target group

In this activity, an analysis of the practical tasks and a description of the possibilities of providing practical lessons in the given region at the partner's secondary schools will be prepared. The analysis will be developed for the target group always coming from the region, such as a partner secondary school where the MSEK practice centre will be established. These materials will be developed by expert consultants in cooperation with the management of individual schools and guarantors - practitioners. The analysis will be tailored to make it possible to adapt the assignment of practical tasks to pupils involved in schools after the project has been implemented.
